Berlin, Germany and Tamworth, England, 9th January 2018 Razorcat, manufacturer of test tools for the development of embedded software, has announced that the forthcoming release (4.1) of the TESSY unit and integration test tool will support automated fault injection. With automated fault injection, developers of hardware and software for embedded systems and components can conveniently generate and manage test cases to be implemented in unit tests, integration tests and component tests automatically without changing the source code – saving time and money Classically, whenever 100% code coverage cannot be achieved with normal test cases, fault injections are applied manually. This can be by adding testing code, by code replacements using compiler macros, by replacing functions (stubbing) or by changing variable values using debug tools. These methods have the disadvantage that either they need to be added and removed manually or the instrumentation of the source code remains in place within production code. Given that it is most probably the test engineer who first identify the need for a fault injection, if the code needs to be changed, the subsequent corrections to the code will ned to be subject to the software development approvals process required by the safety standards. Such an iteration highly increases development time and cost. ”........ CONTINUES Razorcat pages>Link To

Segger has upgraded the emFile file management system for embedded applications by adding a block grouping feature to reduce the amount of RAM needed for block management of NAND flash memory. NAND can now be used for gigabytes of data with even with smaller microcontrollers. NAND flash is the fastest and most cost-efficient way to store large amounts of data, but when using external NAND memory with microcontrollers, RAM limitation is usually the bottleneck: for example, an 8 GB NAND flash, divided into 4096 blocks, would normally require 8 Kbyte RAM. Using block grouping, where the driver treats multiple blocks as a single block, considerably reduces the RAM used for administrating the NAND flash memory. Users can scale the size of a block group according to their requirements. With block grouping, the RAM for an 8 GB NAND flash can be less than 1 Kbyte. Critically, block grouping does not affect processing speed. This new feature further improves the efficiency of emFile’s NAND driver. It has outstanding read and write performance: almost 6 Mbytes/s for reading and 3.8 Mbytes/s for writing. Furthermore, it is fail-safe, which means the file system remains intact even in cases of unexpected resets. By adding the optional journaling feature, this safety can be extended to the data residing in the file system. Block grouping is integrated in the latest release of emFile. . ........ Phaedrus System is releasing a new version of Segger's emSSL secure sockets implementation with both client and server capability. Needing only 7KB of RAM to support a secure connection between browser and the web-server makes emSSL suitable for operation on single-chip systems. "Secure communication is going to be vital for the emerging Internet of Things (IoT)," said Chris Hills, CTO of Phaedrus Systems "This implementation of emSSL is going to help developers create secure products." Small embedded devices can send e-mail via encrypted connections or and retrieve or serve secure web pages using HTTPS. emSSL is highly efficienct in terms of RAM, ROM and processor load. It works seamlessly with SEGGER’s high performance IP Stack, embOS/IP, as well as with the embOS/IP Web Server extension. Alternatively, it runs smoothly with any IP Stack supporting plain sockets, or any bidirectional communications channel. emSSL comes as a complete package with all modules provided in source code. The user has full control over the code used and does not need to worry about possible back doors or weaknesses in the code. It supports TLS version 1, 1.1 and 1.2 out of the box. Example code demonstrates how to access cloud-based services such as Dropbox and Twitter. ........ CONTINUES Click for Hires version of Graphic > Link to Full SSL information >link to |

Phaedrus Systems is launching emSSL, a ground-up implementation of secure sockets that are the backbone of secure communications on the Internet today. Written by Segger Microcontroller to run effortlessly on single-chip embedded devices, emSSL integrates seamlessly with Segger's embOS/IP or, alternatively, any IP stack that supports plain sockets, or any bidirectional communications channel. emSSL supports TLS (Transport Layer Security)version 1, 1.1, and 1.2 out of the box and provides modern cipher suites that offer robust authentication, confidentiality, message integrity, and forward secrecy. Whilst being compact, it is also highly efficient in terms of RAM, ROM, and processor load. emSSL's highly flexible and straightforward configuration targets small devices by linking only what’s necessary, and at the same time avoids a sea of pre-processor defines that drown other source code products. “Increasingly security is an important feature of embedded systems, moving from industrial into consumer products, " said Chris Hills, CTO of Phaedrus Systems .
